At primary school it was glam rock, but T.Rex, Sweet & Slade an, er, Gary Glitter were the mainstays, though Bowie crept in

Then I went to secondary school and all the long haired 6th formers told us the charts were crap and it should be Greenslade/ELP/Genesis/Jethro Tull and Floyd

Then, thank fully punk happened and we told the 6th formers to fuck OFF - and it was Pistols, Clash, Damned, Jam

I could not have put it better myself, identical experience, spooky.

But by late 70s post-punk I embraced funk & soul & reggae

Not so tribal nowadys so can listen to a bit of Progressive stuff again and also like people like Neil Young who we dismissed as a 'crap hippy' back in the 70s

In the 1970s the ones I liked were (besides Play School "Bang On a Drum" when I was a toddler of course):
Anything by Ian Dury - helped that my old man liked him too (meant he'd pay for the records & cassettes)
Tom Robinson Band 2-4-6-8-Motorway
Tubeway Army - Are Friends Electric
and to the chagrin of my Mum, I also remember being enthralled by Siouxsie & the Banshees and the Sex Pistols!

Got into a lot more 70's stuff during my teen years, but that was in the 80s...

Don't even know a couple of Coffee's 5 reference pieces.

But I do remember exactly where I was (a Kennedy moment) when I first heard Sultans of Swing. Which, unlike yours truly, has aged rather well.

Funnily enough, a song I loved as a kid popped up on the pub jukebox. Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks. It depresses the fuck out of me now.

I also loved 'It's Just another Day' by PM and Wings.

Then I left home and moved in with a bloke called Ten Pole Tudor, and he helped to widen my musical tastes.
